Aquaculture Breakthrough: Skretting Launches Necto, a Groundbreaking Functional Feed for Fish
(NORWAY, 10/6/2025)
New Health Diet, featuring Proprietary EDGEOS PhytoComplexes, Focuses on Enhancing Fish Resilience and Welfare.
Skretting, a global leader in aquaculture nutrition, has officially announced the launch of Necto, a new functional health diet formulated to meet one of the industry's main challenges: safeguarding fish health and welfare. Necto is powered by proprietary EDGEOS PhytoComplexes and will be available in selected countries starting at the end of 2025.
The introduction of Necto marks a significant milestone for Skretting, as it is the first product from the company to feature PhytoComplexes commercially. These complexes were specifically created for aquaculture through a partnership with Nutreco Exploration, a division of Nutreco that specializes in plant research and novel ingredient development.

Shifting Focus to Resilience and PhytoComplexes
The aquaculture industry’s focus has shifted from disease resistance toward overall welfare and resilience—the ability of fish to withstand and cope with challenges like stress, environmental issues, and infections. Necto addresses this by going beyond traditional feed.
In addition to the PhytoComplexes, Necto includes an advanced composition of functional ingredients. This innovative combination forms a complex solution that supports fish resilience by enabling them to:
-
Resist stressors affecting health and welfare.
-
Adapt to challenges and maintain performance.
-
Recover and return to normal function.
Research spearheading the product, led by Dr. Linda Jensen, Skretting's Team Lead Health, confirms the diet’s innovation. Dr. Jensen stated, "Necto is a holistic solution that supports fish health and resilience in an unprecedented way."
A New Era in Functional Feeds
Necto is the result of a vast collaborative effort involving nine different research partners spanning five different countries. Independent third-party studies consistently demonstrated that the feed supported fish health and welfare, resulting in higher survival rates across several fish species.

Dr. Linda Jensen, Anna Hesby Nessa and Gordon Ritchie
Anna Hesby Nessa, Skretting’s Global Product Manager Warm Water Species Health, called Necto "a revolution in aquaculture," noting that the product's performance has been elevated through "the precise selection and advanced cultivation of certain plants."
Dr. Gordon Ritchie, Skretting’s Global Product Manager Salmon Health, emphasized the feed’s comprehensive approach, describing it as a "powerhouse combination of solid nutrition, well-established functional ingredients and PhytoComplexes," which helps fish cope with the impacts of inflammation and natural environmental stressors. Necto is positioned as an exciting contributor to integrated fish health management and welfare.
